Single on Valentine's Day? Fear Not!

Jenn Nguyen

I didn’t forget about you, singles!

After putting together date night ideas in my last post, I started to compile a list of what singles can do on Valentine’s Day. And honestly, I started to jot down the same exact list. You shouldn’t miss out on experiences just because you don’t have an “official Valentine.” You very well can gather a group of friends for a jolly-let loose time. Let’s face it. We all have that one friend who jumps from relationship to relationship. It may not be a common occurrence for you and your friends to all simultaneously be single, so take advantage of this window of opportunity, go out, and celebrate!

Or better yet, go by yourself. More power to you. Who knows, maybe doing things on your own will show you a new perspective, a new epiphany. More importantly, your own perspective and your own epiphany. It’s significant to take that initiative and do the things you want to do without concern for how it will seem, appear, or be judged by others. Remember: it’s a day to celebrate love-that includes self-love. And the more you love yourself, the more you will know how to give AND accept love from someone else when it is time. It’s all a circle. I am far from a love professional, but don’t be jaded by the cliche commercialization of Valentine’s Day. Buy yourself a dozen roses. Or a dozen Popeyes chicken tenders. Treat yourself to two helpings of dessert. Learn that thing you’ve always wanted to learn. The pursuit of happiness is the pursuit of your utmost potential. And if you’re on the pursuit for “the one, you’d only want to offer them the best version of yourself anyways. At the end of the day, you are your first valentine and your first love. So act like it. That’s an order!!! Just kidding I can’t tell you what to do,🤣 but you get the gist.

By the way, the date night suggestions are not reserved specifically for February 14th. After all, everyday is Valentine’s Day right? Last but not least, doesn’t matter if you’re single, in a relationship or situationship, head to your nearest CVS or Target February 15th for mega candy sales!

XOXO, (the hershey’s kind)

10 Not Your Run of the Mill Valentine's Day Dates

Jenn Nguyen

This isn’t sponsored (obviously lol but maybe I’ll get there one day!). I’ve done most of these before; so I can speak on behalf from firsthand jennuine experience. There are also several reasonably priced and free options below.

1) DC Improv Comedy Club: General Admission ~$25/pp:

A good sense of humor goes a long way. Laughing is the best ailment for anything, especially when shared with loved ones.

2) Escape Room Live: ~$28/pp

You are locked in a themed room and the only way to get out is by working together to solve the mystery. The pressure is added when you must connect the clues before time is out! Think outside of the box, while trapped in a box. Nothing more attractive than a stimulating mind! This is a group activity, so turn it into a triple date.

3) Barmini: ~$175/pp

A unique and imaginative experience by world renown chef and philanthropist, Jose Andres. Enter an upscale craft cocktail bar for a slew of creative drinks and nibbles your taste buds will thank you for.

4) (His/her) Favorite dessert tour: Price varies depending on how many dessert stops you create on your tour.

Make a scavenger hunt out of your significant other’s favorite sweet treat. Look up the best spots, for ice cream (for example). Tour the town: stop at a variety of ice cream shops to narrow down the “head scoop” if you will.

5) Urban Axes: ~$25/pp

For you badasses out there, this is your dose of an adrenaline rush for V-Day. 1 hour of axe throwing as well as a round of drinks. Self-defense is sexy! 😄

6) Home cooked meal with customized recipe cutting board add-on gift:

This a cozier option for those who don’t want to brave the cold and hands-on which is always fun. Cook her favorite meal (together or for her-either or) Afterwards, an additional add-on is to gift a wooden cutting board engraved with the recipe. Thoughtful and useful.

7) Salsa/bachata dancing

I may be a tad biased on this one. Stay tuned for a future blog post devoted entirely to salsa and its invaluable gift. Learn a new dance, take those skills to use, and fire up the dance floor!

-Salsa with Silvia Dance Studio: “An evening of dance and romance” includes a dance lesson, wine, fondue station: $75 pp

-Sauf haus Bier hall and garden: Bar atmosphere with happy hour specials and open space for a casual salsa lesson and social dancing: $0/no cover

-Eighteenth street lounge: Live salsa band and open social dancing: $0/no cover

8) Sotto Live jazz speakeasy: ~$115/pp

Taking it back to the prohibition era, the element of secrecy is always exciting to spice things up. This intimate establishment on Valentine’s Night offers a Live Jazz performance, 4 course meal, and unique hand crafted cocktails.

9) The Magic Duel: : ~$50pp

Not your typical magic show. Two competitors battle it out for the title of Best Magician in a comical, interactive show where the audience votes for the champion

10) Augment Virtual Reality Arcade: ~ starting at $60 (for the first hour and a singular headset)

This upscale arcade bar features a variety of high tech simulation experiences. Add competitive edge to date night.

As cliche as Valentine’s Day is, it’s a good excuse to add pizazz to date night. Change things up from the usual dinner and a movie with one of the aforementioned date ideas! Enjoy lovebirds 🕊🕊♥️.

With love,

Jenn
