About
Native to the melting pot that is the DMV (DC, Maryland, Virginia), Jenn Nguyen is the creator behind Justjennuine: a personal style chronicle that highlights unapologetic authenticity for women starting from the moment they get dressed in the morning. Justjennuine aims to embolden today’s leading ladies to conquer the day: in style.
There is a positive correlation in the tried and true message, "look good, feel good.” In a deeper sense, when one feels good internally, one can project that energy to do good externally.
Whether it be accomplishing your goals, contributing to society, or shining your light, it all starts from feeling good within. Justjennuine runs as a creative outlet for myself and simultaneously strives to be a resourceful platform for women to radiate their light from the inside out. By “out” not only do I intend how you present yourself on the outside, but your impact on your neighbor, family, community, and the outside world.
**Common misconceptions I wish to debunk through my content**
"I can't pull that off"
The only person who decides what you can or cannot pull off is YOU. If you like something and how it makes you feel, you’re the one wearing the clothes, not the other way around. No one can take that from you. Also, tailoring makes the world of a difference. (Impromptu safety pins are a girl’s best friend.)
"It must cost a fortune to keep up with trends"
As I get older, I’ve grown more appreciation for timeless, quality staple pieces that will last years to come. Those items are worth spending the extra dollar and a good investment in the long run. On the other hand, a lot of the time it is VERY possible to look good and not put a huge dent in your wallet. Especially when it comes to passing trends, social outings, and one-time events: those occasions shouldn’t cost you an arm and leg. I try to keep purchases for the latter within the $20 range. There are much more important and worthwhile things to finance before your wardrobe (rent, investments, various bills, travel, miscellaneous experiences, tacos).
"What a glamorous lifestyle"
As much as I enjoy dolling up, you’ll usually find me bumming in my polka dot robe, tripping in my salsa shoes, and swinging for dear life in my climbing harness. (Not all at once of course). I am constantly learning and if I had the option to direct someone around to wear styled outfits and pose, I would. I have an affinity for clothes, not modeling so please bear with me. I’ll also share from time to time “behind the scenes” outtakes.
Too often we get caught up in the glamour of social media, comparing ourselves to what people choose to share or deem as instagoals and hashtag standards from a tiny little screen. We get lost in the beauty of “picture perfect”, but I think there’s more beauty and even more growth in trial and error, doing your best and figuring it out along the way. More than being #goals, I want to be #real.
